About the Talk

Roy Delbyck is a major collector of printed materials on China and Hong Kong, largely from the first half of the 20th century. His collection comprises books, maps, photographs, letters, diaries, posters, postcards, directories, and other ephemera. It continues to grow, daily!

Roy will talk about what he collects, he will also speak on why he collects, how his collecting interests have changed over time while exploring the nature of collecting, and how private collectors fill in the gaps, often going where institutions can’t.

About the Speaker

When not collecting, Roy Delbyck is a US customs and trade lawyer with his own firm. He has resided in Hong Kong for many years. He is a trustee of the Museum of Chinese in America based in New York City.

Roy has spoken on collecting and his collections at the Royal Asiatic Society, The University of Hong Kong, City University of Hong Kong and the Yale Club of Hong Kong. Photographs from his collection were exhibited at HKUST Library earlier this year.
