Past and Present
MAK Sze Yiu, Yo

As I was introduced the method of pixel I was in love with it. I used the famous drawing “Girl with Pearl Earring” to construct my own. It is interesting to use pixel drawing on old paintings that pixels has not even existed. “Girl with Pearl Earring” symbolizes the beauty of female at that time. Inspired by my Chemical Engineering background, I bring in the element of time by adding in chemical equations of common plastic surgical substances on areas like, the mouth, the nose and breast, where modern women tend to have surgery on. I think paintings are the reflection of the painters’ lives at their time, so I questioned what it would be like if the paintings are done in our time.
