LUI Hoi Lun Henry

Gone were the days when fishery was the primary occupation in Tai O, a small town on the western side of Lantau Island, built right above the sea. Because fishing no longer provides sufficient income, most people have decided not to continue fishing as a family tradition, resulting in a rapid decline of the industry. In spite of that, some products and traditions are still surviving today.

Salted fish and shrimp paste, favoured by most Hong Kong people, have survived and continued to earn the town fame and wealth. The skills and experience of fishermen, on the other hand, have not yet vanished, but are rarely known. The works presented here are candid images of them.
