Red Fox and Kit at Sunset

I traveled year after year to the Arctic and to Yellowstone National Park in search of red foxes natal dens. My trips always began on a high note of enthusiasm, and then plummeted to disappointment.

Then one day, out of the blue, I sighted one a short distance from my home, in the city of Los Angeles. The fox den was nestled in the cliffs bordering the Pacific Ocean. The image of the mother and pup was taken a fraction of a second before the sun slipped below the horizon. The last sliver of light shone its minimal glory, darkening the exterior and casting a most poignant light upon them.
